The UNRWA Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, warned that the new aid distribution system in Gaza is worsening the suffering of civilians, describing it as a way to distract the world from the escalating humanitarian crisis in the area.
Lazzarini explained that the new system forces Palestinians to travel long, dangerous distances to receive aid, as distribution has been limited to only three or four points compared to the previous 400 distribution points across the Gaza Strip.
He added that this change in the distribution method has caused additional waves of displacement within Gaza as people seek to secure their basic needs.
Lazzarini called on the international community to take concrete steps to protect civilians in Gaza and facilitate the delivery of aid.
