The World Food Programme (WFP) has reported that more than 70,000 children in the Gaza Strip are facing severe levels of malnutrition, warning that any further escalation in the conflict could lead to an almost complete halt in humanitarian operations.
The WFP stated that the aid reaching Gaza is insufficient both in quantity and in the variety of essential supplies.
According to United Nations reports, around 2.2 million Palestinians living in Gaza are facing a real risk of famine.
Since May 19, Israeli authorities have allowed a limited number of UN aid trucks to enter Gaza, but humanitarian and UN agencies have described this assistance as merely a "drop in the ocean" compared to the vast needs of the Palestinian population in the besieged enclave.
