Israeli reserve officers and soldiers have announced their refusal to serve under what they described as "an anti-democratic and illegitimate government that has chosen an endless war at the expense of the hostages and everyone living here."
According to the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, 41 Israeli officers and soldiers signed a petition addressed to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, members of his government, and Israeli Army Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, under the title “Soldiers for the Hostages.”
The petition emphasized that the resumption of the war on Gaza was a political decision, not a security necessity, stating that the expansion of the war aims to "save the coalition, not defend Israeli citizens."
The signatories declared their refusal to continue serving in what they called “Netanyahu’s rescue war,” asserting that “the government decided to sabotage the hostage deal and thereby sentenced them to death… We refuse to participate in this government.”
