Impending Crisis in Medical Laboratory Services in Gaza Strip

The Ministry of Health has warned of an impending crisis in medical laboratory services and blood banks due to a severe shortage of laboratory supplies and essential testing materials in Gaza. Blood banks are also facing a critical shortage of supplies in addition to a deficit in blood unit reserves.

Sahar Ghanem, Director of the Laboratory Department at the Ministry of Health in Gaza, stated that 48.7% of laboratory testing materials have less than a one-month supply remaining. Similarly, 48.2% of laboratory consumables and supplies have less than one month's stock.

She confirmed that 50% of hospital laboratories have been destroyed, while 60% of primary care laboratories have been damaged. She also pointed out that 514 laboratory devices are now out of service.
