Senior Hamas official Taher Al-Nounou stated that there is “no progress” in the negotiations regarding a ceasefire in Gaza, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks about major progress and his optimism over a possible agreement.
Al-Nounou noted that communications between mediators and Hamas had intensified in recent days to reach a deal, but emphasized that “the occupation continues to stall.” He reaffirmed Hamas’ openness to any initiative that ensures an end to the aggression, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. However, he confirmed that no new proposal had been received.
“We’re trying to create an opportunity in the next two days for indirect negotiations between the two parties to reach an agreement,” he said, adding, “We hope that Israel does not exploit the ceasefire with Iran as an excuse to unleash its aggression in Gaza and continue its bombardment.”
