The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) reported that the Israeli onslaught on the Gaza Strip has devastated its agricultural sector, leaving only 4.6% of its land arable.
Abdessalam Ould Ahmed, FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa, stated, “FAO is currently unable to import anything into Gaza—not even a single seed or bag of fertilizer.”
The organization pointed out that “as the crisis continues to destroy the agricultural food sector in Gaza, it recently supported 200 farmers in Rafah and Khan Younis to improve the use of available land for growing the most urgently needed staple crops.”
