The Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar has reported new developments regarding a possible ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, as mediators await a “positive” response from Hamas.
Sources indicate that the negotiations have reached an advanced stage, and that the anticipated “positive response” is now only a matter of time. Hebrew media also reported that U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to announce a deal by next Monday.
Egyptian sources familiar with the talks confirmed to the newspaper that “the majority of the core terms have been agreed upon,” including the mechanism for bringing in humanitarian aid and guarantees for continued negotiations during the truce.
However, some issues remain unresolved, particularly the wording of how the war will officially end and how to verify each party’s commitments. Israel is reportedly demanding guarantees from the United States that it would be allowed to resume military action if its conditions—such as the disarmament of resistance groups and the removal of their leaders—are not met.
