163 countries voted with a resolution that supports the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination during the UN’s third committee ‘Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee’. 5 countries voted against (Marshall Islands, the Israeli entity, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru and the USA). 10 countries abstained. The resolution stresses the importance of ending the Israeli occupation which started in 1967 and achieving a peaceful, just, permanent and comprehensive settlement between the Palestinians and the Israeli occupation.
