The spokesperson for the Israeli army, Ive Dovrin, refused to disclose official data on suicide cases among soldiers since the beginning of this year, following media reports about a significant rise in suicide rates due to the repercussions of the war on the Gaza Strip.
In the past two weeks, Israeli media outlets, including Maariv newspaper, Channel 12, and Walla website, reported four suicide attempts among Israeli soldiers, three of which were completed.
The army radio stated that 9 out of 25 members of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee sent a letter to the committee chairman, Yuli Edelstein, calling for an emergency session to discuss the increase in suicide cases within the army.
Haaretz newspaper clarified that since the start of the war on Gaza, 17 soldiers committed suicide by the end of 2023, 21 in 2024, and at least 14 since the beginning of 2025.
