Doctors have been forced to shut down the kidney dialysis unit at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City to conserve the remaining fuel needed for other critical departments, due to Israel’s policy of severely restricting fuel supplies—the lifeline of hospital operations.
Dr. Mohammad Abu Salmiya, Director of Al-Shifa Medical Complex, stated that the hospital is facing extreme overcrowding, operating at over 250% capacity. He added that the medical staff has been working non-stop for days under severe exhaustion and malnutrition, with some staff members being admitted as patients themselves.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the central governorate warned that health services could completely stop within hours due to fuel depletion, which has already caused a partial shutdown of diagnostic services and vital equipment.
