The World Health Organization accused the Israeli military of launching direct attacks on its facilities and medical centers in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, causing severe damage, endangering staff lives, and further paralyzing the already collapsing healthcare system in the Strip.
The organization reported that its staff residence was targeted three consecutive times, causing a fire and extensive material damage. Israeli forces then stormed the building, forcing women and children to evacuate on foot amid clashes. Male staff members and their relatives were reportedly handcuffed, stripped, and interrogated at gunpoint.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that two WHO staff members and two of their relatives were arrested during the raids. Three were later released, but one staff member remains in custody. He called for their immediate release.
