Israeli military analysts have expressed doubt over the feasibility of implementing the Israeli cabinet’s decision to occupy the Gaza Strip, warning of the consequences of international reactions—especially following German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s announcement of halting weapons exports to Israel.

Yossi Yehoshua, military analyst for Yedioth Ahronoth, argued that the plan’s real aim is to buy time in favor of a partial hostage deal.

Amos Harel, military analyst for Haaretz, stated that Netanyahu would face two main challenges if he intends to occupy the Gaza Strip: “The first challenge is that the United States is demanding humanitarian measures, including bringing large amounts of aid into the Strip, establishing multiple distribution centers, and carrying out a careful and gradual evacuation of Palestinian residents. The second challenge concerns the mobilization of reserve forces, as compliance rates in reserve units are in significant decline.”
