Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said that more than 60 water desalination plants in the Gaza Strip have gone out of service due to damage caused by the ongoing Israeli bombardment since October 2023.

It confirmed that “Israel is preventing the import of essential materials for water treatment. Since June 2024, MSF has received approval for only one out of every ten requests to import the necessary materials for water desalination.”

The organization added that “Israel has repeatedly damaged two out of the three water pipelines supplying Gaza since October 2023. It is estimated that 70 percent of the water flowing through these pipelines is lost due to leaks in the wider network, caused by damage from the bombardment.”
