Israeli occupation authorities plan to establish a massive settlement neighborhood comprising 9,000 units on an area of 1,200 dunams on the lands of the historic Jerusalem International Airport, also known as “Qalandiya Airport,” north of occupied Jerusalem. The project is expected to deepen the division of the city and isolate it from its surroundings.
Bassem Bahr, an expert on settlement affairs, stated that the planned settlement project is both old and new in nature, aiming to impose a security settlement belt around Jerusalem as a step toward completing what is referred to as the “Greater Jerusalem” project. Bahr described the project as “massive,” noting that the occupation seeks through it to separate the holy city from the rest of the West Bank via a large settlement belt linking the settlements to each other across the area.
