Rise in Demolition of Homes in WB Before Trump’s Departure

Younes Arar, PR official at the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, said to Safa Agency that 2020 has witnessed a huge rise in the demolition operations in the occupied West Bank in comparison with earlier years. The American Administration gave the occupation’s government the green light to expand its settlements and steal more Palestinian lands at the time when the Arabs are either silent or adopt the occupation’s viewpoint. Arar said that the occupation demolishes all new constructions, whatever they be, and it allows settlers and the Israeli civil administration to impose restrictions on the Palestinian residents and grab their lands. Arar also pointed to how the Commission is working on 5200 Palestinian casefiles inside the Israeli courts, having won plenty of them. Sometimes, however, the occupation takes control under the pretext of having security reasons even if the ruling was in favor of the Palestinians.

According to B’Tselem Center for Human Rights, the occupation demolished 111 Palestinian houses and 263 non-residential buildings and infrastructure in the West Bank during the first ten months of 2020; leading to the displacement of 458 citizens (including 228 minors). In 2019, 105 houses, and 157 buildings and infrastructure were demolished in the occupied West Bank. That resulted in the displacement of 349 Palestinian citizens, including 160 minors. The Center pointed to how the occupation had demolished no less than 1602 Palestinian homes since 2006 until the end of last October.
