Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced a series of political storms last week that affected his political position whether as a head of the government in partnership with Benny Gantz or as a popular politician among the Israeli crowd. After his name rose in the recent polls, it dropped again due to the protests in the Israeli entity. The protestors closed down main intersections in several cities, prevented vehicles from moving, and protested before Netanyahu’s place of residence in Al-Quds.

The health crisis, also known as the Corona crisis, was a main reason in triggering the Israeli community against Netanyahu. The political parties and Israeli community hold him responsible for the failure to stop the crisis and the dramatic rise in death and infection rates. The daily infection rates reached more than 1,000 cases the past two weeks.

The Corona crisis affected the internal economic activity. Thousands of Israelis lost their jobs, and the trade sectors were completely paralyzed.

As for the corruption charges against Netanyahu, the Central Court held its second hearing without him being present. The court specified a schedule for the trial hearings (3 a week) that begin next January. Netanyahu and the other defendants must attend the hearings.

Netanyahu is trying to win over some support through external maneuvers. Last week, a Zionist warplane targeted sites, and ammunition and weapons storehouses in the south and south-west of Damascus. Intelligence sources also hold the occupation responsible for the explosions that targeted nuclear and military facilities in Iran the beginning of this month.

As for the occupation’s plans to annex some areas of the West Bank, they seem to be delayed due to the political unrest of the occupation’s streets which have lost trust in their leadership that failed to control the crises. Aviv Kochavi, the Chief General Staff of the occupation’s army, said that the preparations for the implementation of the annexation in the West Bank are “the army’s top priority these days”.

Based on the abovementioned, following are the three possible scenarios:

  • Netanyahu would busy the Israeli community with the glamor of targeting one of the occupation’s fronts.
  • The government would improve its performance and meet the demands of the Israeli public: increase the economic compensations, have more control over the pandemic and restore the confidence Netanyahu and his government had lost.
  • The public and court continues to exercise pressure on Netanyahu until he resigns.

Netanyahu is known for his maneuvers and good insight on the situation. He suggests solutions, even if useless, in order to keep himself a seat in the political landscape at whatever cost in order to ensure his personal interests. It is expected that he would distract the Israeli public through economic motivations or shifting the cards with the occupation’s fronts.
