Palestinians Abroad: President's Legitimacy Needs Us

Feb 11, 2021 03:15 pm

Ziad El-Aloul, spokesperson for the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad, told Shehab that the Conference demanded the Palestinian factions not to go to the next Cairo dialogue without including a representative of the Palestinians abroad.

El-Aloul confirmed that the absence of the Palestinians abroad in Cairo dialogue is a 'betrayal' to them, and he pointed out that the Palestinians abroad make up half of the Palestinian people.

El-Aloul said, "You cannot discuss an issue without the people mainly affected by it. If the power is in Abbas's hands, the factions must not accept the violation of such right”.

He explained that the Palestinian statue is clear; the Palestinian leadership is elected by the Palestinian National Council which represents  all Palestinians inside the country and the occupied lands of 1948 and abroad.

The Palestinian statue forms the Central Committee to lead the PLO which selects the president without excluding the Palestinians abroad.

Ziad El-Aloul added that if 7 million Palestinians abroad are excluded, no President without full legitimacy can be elected without legitimacy.
