A number of mediators have contacted Hamas leadership in Gaza in preparation for U.S. President Joe Biden's visit to the region, the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar said.

Citing "unnamed" sources, the newspaper explained that officials in Egypt and Qatar had asked the movement not to accompany any escalation in the Palestinian territories, thereby lifting tensions and causing negative repercussions on the Gaza Strip and Hamas.

The newspaper noted that Hamas had replied that the Palestinian people's resistance work was not linked to anyone's visit to the region, but rather to their escalation in accordance with the interest perceived by the Palestinians.
