Today, Sunday, marks the 17th anniversary of 2006 Gaza cross-border raid, during which the Palestinian resistance targeted a location of the Israeli occupation forces in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah. Also, the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit was captured, along with killing and injuring others.
This operation led to the 2011 Wafaa Al-Ahrar deal, which saw the release of Gilad Shalit in exchange for the release of 1027 prisoners, all of whom had served lengthy terms, from Israeli prisons.
The "2006 Gaza cross-border raid" is regarded as one of the Palestinian resistance's most effective fedayeen operations.
