Yesterday was the first time in 11 years that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas visited Jenin and its refugee camp. The president was welcomed by hundreds of citizens, and his speech was broadcast live on all Palestinian news outlets.
According to Abbas, the primary purpose of his visit is to monitor the reconstruction of Jenin City and its camp following the Israeli military operation last week. He also took an oath, promising to vehemently oppose any effort that would harm Palestinian unification and to restore Palestinian security. Additionally, he went to the new cemetery and paid his respects to the nine martyrs who died from gunshot wounds during the Israeli attack on Jenin last week.
Due to the fact that Abbas has avoided visiting Palestinian cities and refugee camps for years, his visit to Jenin was thought to be brief. They attempted to portray the visit as a display of power in the Palestinian media, and they posted the pictures on news outlets.
The Palestinian Authority and the Fatah Movement are becoming increasingly visible at higher levels, in addition to the reconstruction issue. On the other hand, they, in the Palestinian Authority, see Hamas and the Islamic Jihad Movement stepping up their efforts to carry out more fedayeen operations, along with plans to fire rockets. It is unknown if the Palestinian security forces will strengthen their presence in the area or if they will step up their operations against the resistance fighters.
