The National High Committee of the Prisoners Movement approved an open-ended hunger strike, which prisoners inside jails are expected to go through starting on Thursday. This was confirmed by the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs.
Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir's decision to limit family visits to prisoners to once every two months and his insistence on enforcing his criminal schemes that restrict prisoners led to consultations and dialogues, according to the ministry, which led to the decision to engage in the hunger strike.
According to the ministry, despite arguments that arose after Ben Gvir's decision and warnings from some of the occupation's security services about the repercussions of carrying it out, the prisoners are determined to start their battle. This came from their belief that all of the political and security elements of the occupation are complicit with Ben Gvir in his aggression against the prisoners and give him a political and security shield. They provide him with indirect assistance so he can carry out his goals.
