The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) stated that the Israeli occupation forces have directly targeted more than 400 schools in the Gaza Strip since the start of the genocidal war on October 7, 2023.

UNRWA added that over 70% of the schools — most of which had sheltered displaced Palestinian families — were directly targeted by Israeli forces, and 88% of schools now require complete reconstruction or rehabilitation.

The agency noted that 162 of the affected schools are affiliated with UNRWA, and that children in Gaza have been deprived of education for a year and a half.
