Number of Infected Prisoners with Coronavirus Increased

Nov 16, 2020 06:30 pm

The Prisoner’s Club said that prisoner Moayyad Al-Khatib, 20 from Bethlehem, was infected with the Coronavirus. Moayyad is the brother of the martyr Dawood Al-Khatib who died in the occupation’s prison last September. Prisoner Al-Khatib has been arrested for 20 days and is in Al-M’bar division, where the suspended prisoners and newly arrested are kept. Prisoners who were in contact with him will be transferred to what the prisons’ administration calls the ‘quarantine division’ in Hadarim prison. The Club pointed out to the fact that the number of prisoners infected with the virus increased to 132, most of them are in division 3 at Jalbou’ prison. It also stated that the increasing number of infected prisoners is alarming especially that the prisons’ administration neglects the prisoners on purpose. It held the occupation the responsibility of anything affecting the prisoners’ lives, and renewed its demands to the rights institutions – mainly the WHO and the UN – in order to intervene and release the ill and elderly, stop the daily arrests, provide a neutral medical committee that observes the prisoners’ health, and ensure the necessary preventive measures inside the prisoners’ divisions. There are currently 4500 male and female Palestinian prisoners in the occupation’s jails. 700 of them are ill, and 300 of these suffer from chronic diseases. At least 10 prisoners suffer from cancer at different levels.
