The Hamas movement announced in an official statement that it has delivered a “positive” response to the U.S. proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, expressing its readiness to enter immediate negotiations on implementing the framework.
According to the “Ynet” news website, the Israeli Security Cabinet (the Cabinet) will convene tomorrow to deliberate on the deal. Estimates suggest that the Cabinet and the government are expected to approve the agreement despite opposition from ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir.
An Israeli official was quoted as saying, “The plan is for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump to announce the deal during their meeting on Monday.”
The U.S. ceasefire proposal for Gaza stipulates that Hamas will release 28 Israeli captives — 10 of whom are alive and 18 who are deceased — over a 60-day period, in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners, the immediate and sufficient entry of humanitarian aid under the supervision of the United Nations and the Palestinian Red Crescent, and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from parts of northern Gaza, followed by a withdrawal from the south.
