International aid organizations in Gaza have warned that Israel is obstructing the entry of infant formula into the Strip, leading to the deaths of several babies.
According to UNRWA, the rate of child malnutrition has doubled—from 5.2% during the ceasefire at the start of this year to 10.7% currently.
Some aid groups say they are unable to pay the customs fees imposed by Israel on humanitarian goods, which by international law should be exempt from such charges.
The World Health Organization reports that 90% of pregnant and breastfeeding women in Gaza are suffering from severe malnutrition, affecting their ability to produce breast milk and contributing to premature births and miscarriages.
