The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said that thousands of families in the Gaza Strip still do not know the fate or whereabouts of their loved ones amid the ongoing war.
The committee stressed that international humanitarian law requires respectful handling of the bodies and ensuring the dignity of the deceased, emphasizing the need to follow proper documentation and tracing procedures.
It explained that it supports forensic authorities and the Ministry of Health in managing and documenting the bodies, enabling the identification of victims later and allowing families to close a painful chapter of their ongoing suffering.
