Israeli newspaper Maariv, citing informed Israeli sources, reported that Israel is drawing a “red line” ahead of the anticipated meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump, requiring the disarmament of Hamas before proceeding with the second phase of the U.S. plan to rebuild the Gaza Strip.
The newspaper quoted an Israeli source saying, “It is impossible, by definition, to establish a stabilization force in an area controlled by Hamas,” adding that no country would agree to send its troops to Gaza while armed factions exist. The source considered the idea of a force capable of disarming Hamas by force to be “unrealistic.”
This stance highlights a clear gap between Israel and the United States.
