Israeli media reports have revealed growing concern within circles close to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the direction of U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration on the future of the Gaza Strip.
According to Israel’s Haaretz newspaper, there is a belief that Trump may allow the start of “Gaza reconstruction” — particularly in Rafah — before meeting Israeli conditions, namely the disarmament of Hamas and the complete destruction of tunnels.
Aides accompanying Netanyahu during his recent visit to the United States stated that Trump is seeking to quickly advance the “second phase” of Gaza’s administration, even if this leads to a gradual “softening” of the demand for disarmament. In contrast, Netanyahu has maintained an escalatory tone, stressing in recent statements that Hamas must disarm and dismantle hundreds of kilometers of tunnels, or this will be enforced “the hard way.”
