Israeli Army Radio revealed arrangements for the reopening of the Rafah land crossing, with expectations that it will officially open within the next few days.
According to the new arrangements, travelers departing from Gaza to Egypt will not be subjected to direct Israeli security screening. Instead, inspection procedures will be carried out by a European Union mission in cooperation with personnel operating under the Palestinian Authority. As for those returning to Gaza, they will be inspected first by the EU mission and then by the Israeli occupation.
While the final quotas for travelers have not yet been determined, initial estimates indicate that several hundred people per day will be allowed to pass during the initial phase of operation.
