Dec 27, 2020 12:04 pm

Sunday, December 27th 2020, marks the 12th anniversary of the Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip. The assault lasted 22 days, and resulted in the martyrdom of 1330 people, most of them were civilians, women and children.

5500 citizens were injured, several of them suffer from permanent disabilities. The occupation declared the death of 13 Israelis, 10 of them were soldiers, and injury of 300 others. However, the resistance confirmed killing more than 100 soldiers.

The resistance called the deterrence operation of this assault ‘Al-Furqan Battle’ while the occupation called it ‘Operation Cast Lead’. The aggression started with 80 Israeli warplanes simultaneously raiding several security and civil locations in the Gaza Strip.

200 Palestinians were martyred, most of them belonged to the security body. The aggression surprised the Strip which had been in a state of calm that lasted 6 months which had been reached with the occupation under Egyptian sponsorship.

The occupation breached the calm several times and did not adhere to its constituents. The resistance, therefore, did not extend it. The occupation misled the resistance into thinking there was a 48-hour period of time for Gaza to stop firing rockets, but after 24 hours it started the war.

The warplanes continued to heavily bomb different areas in the Gaza Strip, targeting hundreds of civil facilities such as homes, mosques, public schools, UNRWA school, charities and hospitals.

The resistance only fired its rockets at the occupation’s settlements surrounding the Gaza Strip. The occupation’s forces then initiated a ground attack on January 3rd.

Hundreds of tanks along with warplanes bombarded the Strip with shells and rockets. It even used unconventional weapons against the civilians such as white phosphorus and depleted uranium which appeared on the bodies of some martyrs according to reports issued by European experts and institutions.

After 23 days of the beginning of the aggression, Olmert announced one-sided ceasefire without withdrawing from Gaza. On the following day, the Palestinian factions declared one-week period for the occupation’s army’s withdrawal, and the latter did withdraw afterwards.
