Haniya Renews Request to SA to Release Hamas’ Arrested Members

Dec 29, 2020 10:34 am

Ismael Haniya, Chief of Hamas’ Political Bureau, said during the seventh political conference of Hamas that the Movement renewed its request to King Salman and other Saudi officials of the importance of releasing the Palestinians arrested there. He added that they must not stay in prison for being affiliated with Hamas, which has never intervened in the internal affairs of any country.

Last April, Haniya requested from SA the release of the imprisoned Palestinians. Khaled Mashal, former Chief of Hamas’ Political Bureau, said that the Movement had tried to involve several Arab parties to mediate and solve the issue, and that Hamas no longer has any means of communication with Riyadh.

More than 50 Palestinian and Jordanian people are under trial in Saudi Arabia for the claim of financially supporting Hamas. The two most prominent prisoners are the Movement’s official representative in SA Mohammed Al-Khudari and his son Hani.

The arrests took place from February – July 2019. Later, five of the arrested were released without being officially charged.
