The Prisoner’s Club recorded 38 new Coronavirus infections among the prisoners in Division 4 at Rimon prison. This is the division where the first infections were registered on January 11 of this year.
The total number of infected prisoners reached 111 since the said date. The total number of infections since the spread of the virus reached more than 335 infected prisoners.
The Prisoner’s Club said that what happened in Division 4 was expected as a result to the prison’s administration’s intended delay in collecting samples and announcing their results.
The infections rose among the prisoners leading to a disaster especially that more than 40 prisoners in the division suffer from medical problems. He also referred to the old age of some prisoners whose sentences are long and are not offered minimum health care.
The Supreme National Committee urged the international community institutions – mainly the WHO and the Red Cross – to exercise pressure on the occupation’s government to save the lives of the sick prisoners and release them amidst the spread of the virus.
It delivered the statement in a press release that was held at the Ministry of Health in Ramallah in the West Bank.
Mai Al-Kaila, Minister of Health, said that the occupation intentionally uses the Coronavirus as a suppressive tool against the prisoners without having the least concerns over the dangers of the pandemic.
She expressed the worrisome of the Ministry regarding the health conditions of the prisoners Ayman Sedr, who was transferred to the hospital due to complications in the symptoms of the virus; Khalid Ghaithan; Basel Ajjaj; and Abdel Mu’iz Al-Ja’ba urging the WHO and the Red Cross to arrange a visit to check on their health conditions.
The Minister emphasized the importance of forming an unbiased international committee that follows up with the prisoners’ conditions and supervises the vaccination against the Coronavirus.
