Dawood Shihab, senior official at Islamic Jihad in Gaza told Sawa News Agency that the Palestinian factions’ delegation will leave the Gaza Strip to Cairo today through Rafah crossing in order to participate in the Palestinian dialogue. He said that the Islamic Jihad delegation will be headed by Mohamed Hindi, Head of the Political Department of the movement.
Shihab confirmed that the dialogue in Cairo is considered an opportunity to discuss different issues; mainly the preparation of a political program and agreement on a national vision to face the current challenges.
Shihab added that the Islamic Jehad has a vision; one that is based on the elections as part of national agreements that must be implemented. He said that there are certain principles, the political program mostly, which must be settled in order to overcome the current troubles and achieve unity.
Shehib said that the PA and the PLO must be separated from one another, and so must the National and Legislative Councils. This vision will be addressed in the dialogue as well.
Shihab pointed out that the elections alone will not meet the demands of the Palestinian people. The elections must be carried out in accordance with a national agenda based on a political program approved by all Palestinians. He also said that the Islamic Jihad had not decided whether to participate or not in the elections, and that their decision would made after the dialogue in Cairo.
