What the Israeli Elections Exposed

Early this week, the occupation announced that a unity government was reached between the Israeli political parties, declaring an establishment of the thirty-fifth Israeli Government. The government would be first headed by Benjamin Netanyahu, leader of the Likud party, and second Benny Gantz, Leader of Blue and White party. This government succeeded after 3 failed attempts of parliamentary elections without reaching coalitions, lists or blocs. The Israeli political system had been suffering from vacuum and complete paralysis.

Being under such a 'democratic' Israeli regime, the establishment of this government was neither accessible nor easy. It was later discovered that 'democracy' was a mere lie that hid the truth about how fragmented the entity is. In fact, the government exposed the size of corruption in the occupation's entity, and how it is under the rule of 'one man' who is the former prime minister and current leader of Likud, Benjamin Netanyahu.

During the Israeli government formation, the fragility of the leadership of the occupation was clear as the Israeli community failed to agree on one leadership to represent them. However, the one receiving the highest votes was Netanyahu who is facing corruption charges. Some researchers in the Israeli affairs called Netanyahu the ‘king of all kings of Israel’ and that ‘Israel’ is under the ‘control of Netanyahu’.

Netanyahu’s control surfaced and was clear through his ferocity and behavior in the elections. Netanyahu managed to survive the prosecution and corruption charges, and was able to direct the landscape and form the parties whether inside the right bloc or the left, headed by Gantz.

Netanyahu exploited the false harmony among the left-bloc members to breach it. He managed to prevent the formation of a left government through inciting racism towards the Arab List, which supported the leftists, hence the Israelis did not vote for a leftist government supported by the Arabs. He also managed to dissolve the rival parties and coalitions, which had agreed on toppling him, and won his seat in the 35th government.

Netanyahu also manipulated the right bloc through giving false promises of working together in any future government. He then turned his back to Yamina party, headed by Naftali Bennett, which is considered second most prominent party in the right bloc. He also neutralized and oppressed eminent leaders in the Likud such as Gideon Saar, and Limor Livnat who were not appointed any ministry or ministerial position.

The form and program of the thirty-fifth government have proven the collapse of values and virtue in the occupation’s entity. The Israeli parties and figures change their positions into what meets their interests without the slightest adherence to values and principles. Perhaps one of the best examples is the leftists’ declarations of not participating in the government of ‘corrupt Netanyahu’, but ended up helping and protecting him from the law and prosecution.

The most recent electoral programs revealed the Israeli community’s inclination towards the right. The political system, supported by the community, adopts a more criminal and racist policy towards the Palestinians and Arabs, and calls for the theft of more Palestinian lands and expansion of settlements. Such popular invitations have exposed the absence of a ‘real leftist’ voice that calls for a political resolution with the Palestinians.

The political, party and social fragmentation in the occupation’s entity is not of a recent origin nor is it the result of an emergency. It is a natural result of the internal fragmentation and disconnectedness that the Israeli community lives under, especially considering the spread of racism and discrimination among its members, and the disparity in their ideologies and beliefs. Allah says in the Holy Quran, “Thou wouldst think they were united, but their hearts are divided” [Al-Hashr: 14]. Amen.
