Israeli officials told Walla website that Anthony Blinken, the United States Secretary of State, called Gabi Ashkenazi, the Foreign Minister of the occupation, to discuss the fears of both sides if Hamas wins the Palestinian legislative elections on May 22. Both sides secretly discussed their fears in order to not be accused of ruining the elections.
Ashkenazi expressed his concerns over the internal division in Fatah which would weaken President Abbas' party and pave the path for Hamas' victory.
Israeli officials added that America and the occupation were not actually trying to prevent the elections, but they will be happy if they were postponed.
