Palestinian Prisoners Dug through Dirt and Rock to Obtain Freedom

Six Palestinian prisoners managed to escape from the Israeli occupation high-security Gilbou prison, opened in 2004, in the predawn hours of Monday morning. The prison is well-equipped to the extent it can reveal any attempts of escape or smuggling of cellphones into the prison through a cell tower that affects any kind of contacts.

The administration of the prison announced the names of the six prisoners and noted that they all are from Jenin. Four of them were in prison for life, while the two others were held in administrative detention.

Insight of the Scene:

As the administration of Gilbou prison informed the occupation authorities of the escape after two hours, it is apparent that the Palestinian prisoners could reach their destination conveniently and before the occupation forces erupt security barriers between provinces, particularly that the prison is located in the north of Palestine.

Occupation media reported that the Palestinian prisoners, who escaped from Gilbou, moved in four sides as the police believes two of them flee to Majdal Shams, two entered Jordan while the two others are still in the Palestinian lands. Although, those reports are more likely to be a security game the occupation authorities intend to play thoroughly and transparently to catch them.

The Israeli occupation refuses to publish any serious details of the escape. It once gives the information it needs, and hides the next. This is evidently to distract the prisoners who broke free and to ease the arrest. This comes next to the meetings held between Prime Minister Naftali Bennet, Aviv Kochavi, the chief of General Staff of the IOF, the chief of the Occupation Prison Service, and the chief of the Shabak.

It is probable that the Mossad is engaged in the process in which it will work on finding any trace leading to any prisoner who could pass the borders between the Israeli occupation and the neighboring counties.

Possible Scenarios:

  • The prisoners head to the southern suburb of Lebanon, controlled by Hezbollah. What supports this scenario is that Hezbollah supports the Palestinian Resistance and will protect and secure the prisoners until they reach the destination they want.
  • The prisoners head to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. This scenario is supported by the mountainous terrain that covers the area, in which it would be hard for the occupation to conduct a large-scale sweep operation. Also, the Jordanian authorities will be keen to deport them to the country they choose without handing them over to the occupation as it will not expose itself to popular pressure, especially amid the current harsh conditions its citizens suffer from.
  • The Palestinian prisoners have weapons and hide in a secret place inside the occupied Palestinian lands. The argument here is that they will stay away of the lands controlled by both the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli occupation as they will soon carry out operations against the occupation.

In general, all scenarios are possible, yet the third scenario is more likely to realize because of the difficulty of the prisoners' geographic movement amid the tight security procedures imposed on the Palestinian lands.
