Israeli opinions and analyses of the military operation launched by the occupation army against the Gaza Strip have varied. Different perspectives were presented on the reasons, objectives, and outcomes of the ongoing military operation.

In his Haaretz article “Operation in Gaza: There are no goals, except the desire to prove that ours is bigger”. Gideon Levi confirmed that the occupation’s military operation had no real goals except arrogance and the desire to prove the occupation has power. He added that a four-day siege of the Gaza Strip surrounding settlements is unaccepted, but they are incomparable to the sixteen-year siege imposed on the Gaza Strip. The journalist believes it necessary to lift the siege, acknowledge Hamas, and make effort to reconcile with it.

Ofer Shelah, journalist at Yedioth Ahronot, wrote in his article “Necessary Operation, But without a Change” that the operation was necessary for Israeli security. However, it has not made any significant achievements, as previous operations led to the death of leaders such as Abu Al’ata and Ahmed Al-Ja’bari, but did not affect the resistance.

In its editorial “Return of Normal Life in Gaza”, Haaretz discusses the economic incentives and facilitations offered by the occupation to the Gaza Strip, as well as Hamas’ “which runs Gaza” refrainment from getting involved in the clashes; calling to develop this approach. The article concludes with the call to end the operation quickly, before Hamas is dragged into the picture, as that would not be in “Israel’s” best interest. The same opinion was shared in the same newspaper by Amos Harel in his article “Israel Goal Achieved, Time to Stop”.

In Israel Hayom article “The Collapse of Islamic Jihad's Equations”, Oded Granot confirmed that Hamas’ refrainment from involvement in the clashes has disappointed the Islamic Jihad and even proved the success of the occupation’s plan to divide the two factions. The opinion was also adopted by Ariel Kahana and Tamir Morag in their Article “Operation Breaking Dawn” in the same newspaper.

Amos Gilad and Michael Milshtein argued in their article “Do not make Concessions to Hamas” in the Yedioth newspaper that Hamas’ exclusion from the confrontation is not enough. It should, rather, be forced to control the security status and contain all factions in the Strip.
