The Israeli press published a number of opinions and analyses commenting on the military operation launched by the occupation army against the Gaza Strip. The Israeli opinions ranged from undermining the Israeli achievement to calling to open continuous channels with the Gaza Strip and offering it more the economic incentives.
In his article “Hamas is another Story”, Maariv journalist Tal Lev commended the army’s operation against Islamic Jihad, and expressed his rejection of the new reality imposed by Hamas on the southern settlements. However, he stressed the need to end the operation before Hamas, which has a greater force and armor, is dragged to the fight.
In his article “Dawn of a Better Day”, Yedioth Ahronoth columnist Nahum Barnea claims that the army made four achievement uring its operation: isolation of the enemy, being the Islamic Jihad; the accuracy, success and effect of the Israeli military activity, achievement without any Israeli deaths; and finally permission to the army to work against Islamic Jihad in the West Bank.
As for the opinions related to the effectiveness of the Israeli military operation, Amos Harel argues in his Haaretz article “Tactic but not Strategic” that the outcomes of the operation are only tactic and temporary. They do not mean that Hamas will reject the resistance, nor do they mean that the economic improvements will change the creed of Hamas or the other resistance factions in the Gaza Strip.
Israel Hayom correspondent Yoav Limor wrote in his article “Best Fight Round in Gaza Ever” that the success of the Israeli military operation is only temporary, and that the fight will be inevitably resumed.
Haaretz editorial titled “Lapid’s Plan” referred to the necessity to promote the economic incentives provided to Gaza on two stages; the first includes improving the Strip’s economic conditions while the second is constructing a seaport to connect it with the world.
Finally, Haaretz journalist Alon Pinkas mocked in his article “The World Does not Care about Gaza” the poor international interaction with Gaza. He sees that the world does not care about whatever happens in the Gaza Strip, and that the highest response that the occupation should expect is condemnation. Even if that condemnation is heightened, the United States will interfere to do what is necessary and use the Vito to annul any decisions.
