37 prisoners are currently imprisoned in isolation cells and sections, under harsh and cruel conditions, according to the Palestine Center for Prisoner Studies, which revealed that the occupation forces increased their use of solitary confinement throughout the current year.
The center's director, Riyad Al-Ashqar, confirmed that the systematic isolation policy was one of the most serious violations carried out by the prison administration. By isolating the prisoner for extended periods of time alone in cells that are unfit for human habitation, this policy seeks to physically and psychologically destroy the prisoner.
He emphasized that the current month of July's great temperature wave made the isolation conditions for the prisoners worse, especially for those confined to cells in southern prisons where their bodies are ruthlessly burnt by the high temperatures of the air, human life, in addition to mistreatment, subpar nutrition, and inadequate ventilation.
