Twenty-three years ago today, on September 28, the Al-Aqsa Intifada began. In conjunction with the anniversary of the intifada, the Israeli occupation's plans are still trying to Judize Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa and alter its characteristics.

What ignited the first catalyst of the second Palestinian intifada, known as the "Al-Aqsa Intifada", was when the Israeli opposition leader, Ariel Sharon, stormed Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa and performed provocative rounds in its courtyards. Subsequently, confrontations erupted between Palestinian worshipers and occupation soldiers in Al-Aqsa, which resulted in the martyrdom of several civilians and the injury of dozens. Two days following the intifada's start, the child Mohammad Al-Durra was mercilessly executed in front of the cameras by the occupation forces. As a result, the whole of the Palestinian people united in the fight, and the revolt spread throughout the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip as well as the interior of the occupied Palestinian territory.

During the intifada's five-year duration, the occupation assassinated several key Palestinian leaders, besieged the late President Yasser Arafat in Ramallah, West Bank, and stormed the West Bank, killing 4,412 Palestinians and leaving 48,322 others injured.
