Palestinians commemorate Palestinian Prisoners' Day on April 17th each year, highlighting the prisoners’ cause, especially as their conditions have worsened amid the genocide war on the Gaza Strip.

Prisoner advocacy organizations reported that at least 64 prisoners have died in Israeli occupation prisons since the beginning of the aggression on Gaza, including 40 from Gaza. The occupation continues to conceal the identities of dozens of martyrs and withhold their bodies. Since 1967, 301 prisoners have been confirmed to have died in Israeli custody, the most recent being Musab Hassan Adeili (20 years old) from Nablus.

The organizations added that torture in all its forms, starvation, medical neglect, and sexual assaults were the main causes behind the deaths of many prisoners and detainees.

The number of Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons exceeds 9,900, not including all detainees from Gaza who are subjected to enforced disappearance. Among the detainees are 29 female prisoners and 400 child prisoners.
