The director of Al-Shifa Hospital, Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, said that the healthcare system in the Gaza Strip has reached the point of no return amid its complete and total collapse.
Abu Salmiya confirmed that hospitals in the Strip receive dozens of martyrs and hundreds of injuries daily as a result of Israeli bombardment and the targeting of those waiting for aid. He added: “We cannot find places for the wounded inside the hospital… Many of the injured die before our eyes and we cannot do anything for them, due to the lack of sufficient operating rooms… The morgues are completely full.”
He also pointed out the rising numbers of starving people arriving at hospitals due to malnutrition, with occupancy rates in Gaza’s hospitals reaching more than 270% to 300%.
He further noted a severe shortage of intensive care unit beds, and that anesthetics, sterile gauze, and many essential medicines and medical supplies are gradually running out.
